300 Gift Packages Distributed to Disadvantaged Children in Ha Tinh
With the assistance of the Ha Tinh Provincial Youth Union, on August 26, Kien Vuong visited and personally delivered 300 sets of clothing, 300 pairs of plastic sandals, 3,000 notebooks, and sweets to underprivileged, high-achieving students in Thach Ha and Can Loc districts, Ha Tinh province. Delivering these gift packages in time for the new school year was made possible through close coordination with local authorities to identify students facing difficult circumstances who demonstrate a strong drive to excel in their studies and personal development. Above all, the goal remains to ensure that aid reaches the right places, the right people, and delivers truly meaningful impact to the recipients.
Like many impoverished rural areas in Ha Tinh province, working the fields with water buffaloes is the primary livelihood for the people of Thach Ha and Can Loc districts. Yet, not only has nature proved unforgiving, but the terrain is also mountainous and rugged with scarce flatland, and irrigation for agriculture remains severely limited. Bumper harvests are a rare luxury, while crop failures occur far more frequently than in other districts across the province. Consequently, the standard of living barely covers basic needs; nevertheless, the education of their children remains their absolute priority. They remain deeply aware that without a complete education and decent employment, the only path left for Ha Tinh's youth is to leave their hometowns for the cities, or cross into Cambodia and Laos to become illegal laborers in foreign lands—an outcome no one wishes to see.
Located about 20 kilometers south of Ha Tinh City, the road leading into Thach Ha and Can Loc districts is flanked by hills and mountains, red-tiled roof houses nestled behind lush green areca palms, and vibrant green rice fields waiting for harvest day. Sprawled before our eyes was the serene landscape of a peaceful countryside bathed in the morning sun. A humble, impoverished land, yet one with a history of illustrious victories; a land that has given birth to heroic figures who became living legends.
Crossing the cobblestone village path that cut across small patches of rice fields, our delegation's first destination was the Việt Xuyên Commune People's Committee hall. When we arrived, even though it was not yet time for the gift distribution program to begin, all 150 children had already gathered politely under the guidance of their teachers. The moment I set eyes on them, the very first thought that struck me was: those clothes and pairs of sandals we had sorted by age would surely be oversized for these children! Kids at an age where simply 'eating well, sleeping well, and studying hard makes them good children' like any of their peers, yet their frames were tiny as lollipops, paired with the sun-bronzed, sturdy complexions typical of children from Central Vietnam—looking both utterly endearing and deeply heart-wrenching!
I suddenly remembered the young children in the rocky plateau of Dong Van, who, despite their tender age, already knew how to carry their younger siblings on their backs to help their parents. In winter, they walked to school barefoot in the bone-chilling cold. Then I thought of those children who trudge to class every single day along perilous roads—sandwiched between sheer cliffs on one side and the deep abyss of the Da River reservoir on the other, with constant danger lurking nearby. Where will their futures lead? They cannot rely forever on the generosity of benefactors or wear charity-donated coats indefinitely... If community support were to vanish one day, would they still have enough strength to keep attending school? That is precisely the dilemma that Mr. Qui and Ms. Hien ponder after every journey. What we hope for is long-term sustainability; the fish must come with a fishing rod. We are not merely easing a portion of their current life hardships, but also building the motivation for the children themselves to 'go fishing'—to rise above their own destinies and enrich their very own homelands. And it was truly heartening to hear them enthusiastically talk about their dreams: 'What is your dream?'—'I want to be a builder, so I can build houses for everyone!' I seemed to catch a glimpse once more of the bright eyes of that young Hmong girl when she spoke of her dream to become a preschool teacher. And we wish to join hands with the community to give wings to these children's dreams, helping them fly higher and further..

Farewell to the children in Viet Xuyen, the delegation continues to move to Thuong Loc primary school, Can Loc district to give the remaining 150 gifts. Welcoming the delegation is Mr. Phan Dinh Chinh - Principal of the school and the warmth and intimacy of many parents that exuded from the simple, seasoned faces of the people in the harsh central region.

Leaving Thuong Loc Primary School, on our return journey, the delegation stopped to burn incense at the Dong Loc T-Junction historical site—a landmark that has become legendary for the matchless wisdom and courage of the people of Ha Tinh. Specifically, it stands as a tribute to the youth volunteers who fought heroically, ensuring roads and supply routes remained open to the front line night and day under a fierce hail of bombs and bullets. Thousands of heroes and martyrs fell valiantly at this site, including the ten young women of Dong Loc who passed away while still in the prime of their youth.
Carrying with us the bright smiles and glowing eyes of those young children, along with the sacred atmosphere of Dong Loc T-Junction that marks a heroic period in our nation's history, we bid farewell to the heroic land of Ha Tinh. We return home to prepare for many more journeys to come, bringing even more practical gifts to disadvantaged children across all regions of the country.
